"May the Force be With You"
Students will be starting their fall project-based learning project. The "May the Force be With You" or Lightside/Darkside project connects antebellum history topics with the Romanticism movement in literature. This is a group project and will require both in-class and out-of-class work time.
Our big test is Tuesday and Wednesday. Lost of H.E.L.P. is available on BLEND, including points for watching history review videos and points for answering Learning Target questions focused on our key concepts for APUSH.
Grades will be updated frequently this week as more and more writing tasks are scored. Expect to see Essay Skills and SAQ Skills categories go up as students begin to master how to write AP-style essays that meet the requirements of the College Board's rubric.
On Friday, I will be honored as the 2018 History Teacher of the Year for Texas by Gilder Lehrman. I hope some of my current and former students will be able to join me in the PAC as I accept my award.

There are many ways to provide support as we blend English and history classrooms into an American Studies model. We have created a Donorschoose.org wishlist to support this change, which includes group dry erase boards, flexible seating choices, an expanded student library, and many other small items to make the experience more enjoyable and educational. Please consider making a one-time or ongoing contribution.
