Elyse Hall Joins The AGS Junior Team

Our UT OnRamps US History instructor, Sensei Hall, is a great addition to the AGS Junior Team and will be working directly with Sensei Cooper's ACC classes on many of the interdisciplinary projects common in AGS. She also teaches AP Psychology, so consider signing up next year if you aren't already enrolled in her psych class.

Tech Snafus

The Chromebooks were having a rough start to the school year, with many students experiencing difficulty logging in to their devices. Starting Tuesday, students may take their devices to the library for a "fix" or "swap" so they can again have access to technology in the classroom.

Sensei Whipple has adjusted the Extra Credit date for APUSH's summer assignment to take into account the technology issues. The new 10-point bonus date is Tuesday by 11:45 pm for all APUSH students. If you can't make the Tuesday deadline, you can instead earn 5-points if your APUSH summer assignment is turned in by Friday. If you #procrastinationhurts all summer, you can still turn it in on Monday, September 27 for full credit.

What are we learning?

Week ONE History Highlights:
  • Both APUSH and OnRamps US history are reading the Silas Deane article in preparation for a first week Team Quiz. While OnRamps will jump right in to the English Colonization era, APUSH will spend about a week focusing on the era before the settlement of Jamestown in 1607.
  • The APUSH Summer Assignment is due on Monday, August 27 but extra credit is available if it is turned in early. Read about it HERE.
  • Some OnRamps History students got a "jumpstart" to the class. The syllabus and first month's calendar are also available. Read about it HERE.
  • Resources for history classes can be found at https://e-history.org for APUSH and https://onramps.instructure.com for OnRamps.
Week ONE English Highlights:
  • Students are working through the summer assignment details. Need a copy of the Green Sheets for AP Language? Here you go!

There are many ways to provide support as we blend English and history classrooms into an American Studies model. We have created a Donorschoose.org wishlist to support this change, which includes group dry erase boards, flexible seating choices, an expanded student library, and many other small items to make the experience more enjoyable and educational. Please consider making a one-time or ongoing contribution.
